Flowers From Howick is nestled in the picturesque town of Howick in the Natal Midlands.
The florist is a family-run business with over 30 years experience.
Although a large portion of the flowers are obtained from the Market, flowers and foliage are also sourced directly from as many local flower growers in the area as possible. This is a win-win situation as it supports the smaller producers in the vicinity as well as enables the Florist to offer an interesting and well-stocked cold room.
The stock changes daily and the cold room is often filled with unusual surprises and alternate flower choices. You are welcome, and in fact encouraged, to contact the Florist directly to find out what is recommended and in stock at any given moment.
History
Owner and principal florist, Helena Davis studied under the iconic Moira Kirby of Carters Florist in Pietermaritzburg.
Helena, a self-confessed flower addict, has in fact been cutting, arranging, sourcing, gathering, bundling and finding new ways of bundling together flowers and foliage from the age of about six.
She and her team now run Flowers From Howick with the same passion from her childhood but with just a dash more finesse!
It seems Helena has a 6th sense when it comes to the Language of Flowers and appears to know exactly which flowers will suit whom and what.
Helena admits to loving many flower arranging styles, from the ancient art of Ikebana to old-world colonial bowls of fragrant blooms adorning a private library to modern-day chic. But it seems that her quirky, contemporary yet simplistic flair is the signature style she has become best known for.
Helena is also an accomplished author - a self-confessed romantic and ardent fan of Jane Austen's works.
She has two historical novels available:
Wind in the Wheat Fields, The Lady and the Piano and The Solitary Man .
